Nick announcing his retirement:
20 years, 20 playoff appearances, 1,564 games, 1,142 points, 878 assists, 264 goals, 4 Stanley Cups, 7 Norris Trophies, 1 Conn Smythe Trophy, 11 NHL All-Star Games, a World Championship, a Gold Medal, the 17th member of the Triple Gold Club, the first European born captain to raise the Cup, selected as the best European trained player ever in the NHL, known by fans and team mates as “The Perfect Human” ,
I could go on forever about Nick, but in reality, I don’t have to. The things he has done for himself, his country, and the Red Wings franchise speak for themselves.
I just want to thank him for being one of the best hockey players ever, for staying with the Red Wings for all 20 years, for being such a class act, and for being such an amazing role model and captain. I want to thank him for winning those cups with us and leading the boys for the last 6 years.
You’re amazing, and I really don’t know what we’ll do without ya, Lids.
I’ve been dreading this day since I became manager in 1997.

I wanted to walk away from the game, I didn’t want the game to walk away from me.

nicklas lidstrom is not going to announce his retirement, but announce that his home planet needs him and he must return to stop the uprising of a rebel group who wish to do away with perfection and candy and he’s bringing a-list action hero bruce willis with him
lidstrom will return in 50 years to lead the detroit red wings to more stanley cups
